Jiyoun Lee

An artist from the earth stays in NY

Name: Jiyoun Lee

In my work anthropomorphic creatures such as trash bags, bombs, and weapons tell stories of vulnerability from my ever-changing perspectives as a woman, dreamer and cultural alien. Using ink and acrylic on paper or canvas, I prefer to paint these images in black and white because this style is more object-focused and contradictory in nature. These are my diaries of darkness. My art not only helps me live with my monsters, but also lets me use them to live.

Days of Being Wild

One day,

I found a big book on the street.

Beautiful story and breathtaking pictures caught my eyes and mind.

I read and read again, and I cried a lot.

Everyday I slept with this book

Everyday I awoke with this book

Seems like my life had changed

One day,

suddenly I started to think

this book wasn't mine

this happiness wasn't mine.

As soon as I got the home,

I ripped it up and burned it out

One day,

I went back to normal life

but

something was missing,

something was missing.
